Ingredients:
For the Meatballs:
- 1 pound ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Tomato Sauce:
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Pasta:
- 1 pound penne pasta
- Salt for boiling water
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all the meatball ingredients. Mix well until everything is evenly incorporated.
- Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter, and place them on a baking sheet.
- Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes or until they are cooked through and browned on the outside.
- While the meatballs are baking, prepare the tomato sauce. In a large saucepan, sautΓ© the chopped onion and minced garlic until they become translucent.
- Add the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper to the saucepan. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Cook the penne pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water according to the package instructions. Drain the pasta.
- Once the meatballs are done baking, add them to the tomato sauce and let them simmer together for an additional 10 minutes.
- Serve the meatballs and sauce over the cooked penne pasta. You can sprinkle some extra Parmesan cheese and chopped parsley on top for added flavor.
