Pineapple Habanero Hot Sauce Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 cups fresh pineapple, diced
- 4-5 habanero peppers, stems removed (deseed if you prefer less heat)
- 1/2 cup yellow onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/4 cup lime juice
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions:
- Prepare Ingredients:
- Dice the pineapple and chop the onion.
- Mince the garlic.
- Remove the stems from the habanero peppers. If you prefer a milder sauce, remove the seeds as well.
- SautΓ© the Onion and Garlic:
- In a medium-sized saucepan, add a little oil and sautΓ© the chopped onion over medium heat until it becomes translucent.
- Add the minced garlic and sautΓ© for another minute, being careful not to let it burn.
- Cook the Peppers and Pineapple:
- Add the diced pineapple and habanero peppers to the saucepan.
- Pour in the apple cider vinegar, lime juice, and water.
- Stir in the honey and salt.
- Simmer:
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, until the pineapple is soft and the flavors have melded together.
- Blend the Sauce:
- Carefully transfer the hot mixture to a blender or use an immersion blender in the saucepan.
- Blend until smooth. Be cautious as the mixture will be hot and steam can cause pressure to build up in the blender. If necessary, blend in batches.
- Adjust Consistency:
- If the sauce is too thick, add a little more water until you reach your desired consistency.
- Strain (Optional):
- For a smoother sauce, you can strain it through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any pulp.
- Bottle and Store:
- Let the sauce cool, then transfer it to a sterilized bottle or jar.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to a month.
Serving Suggestions:
- This sauce pairs well with grilled meats, tacos, and as a spicy addition to sandwiches or salads. Enjoy the sweet and fiery kick!
