Shrimp Scampi in Garlic Lemon Butter Sauce
Ingredients
- 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/4 cup dry white wine (optional)
- 1 lemon, zested and juiced
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- Pasta or crusty bread, for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the Shrimp:
- Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels and season them with a pinch of salt and black pepper.
- Cook the Shrimp:
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and 2 tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat.
- Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using). SautΓ© for about 1 minute, until the garlic is fragrant.
- Add the shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for about 2 minutes on each side, until the shrimp are pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
- Make the Sauce:
- In the same skillet, add the white wine (if using) and let it simmer for 1-2 minutes, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
- Add the remaining butter, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Stir to combine and let the sauce simmer for another 2-3 minutes until it slightly thickens.
- Combine and Serve:
- Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and toss to coat them in the sauce. Let them heat through for about 1-2 minutes.
- Sprinkle the chopped parsley over the top and stir to combine.
- If desired, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the shrimp and sauce.
- Serve the shrimp scampi over pasta or with crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce.

- Pasta: Linguine or spaghetti are great choices if youβre serving the shrimp scampi over pasta.
- Wine Substitute: If you prefer not to use wine, you can substitute with chicken broth for a different but still delicious flavor.
