- 1 can (28 oz) San Marzano tomatoes, crushed
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
- Grated Parmesan cheese for serving (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Ingredients:
- Crush the San Marzano tomatoes if they arenβt already crushed.
- Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic.
- Cook the Onions and Garlic:
- Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
- Add the chopped onion and cook until it becomes translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes, being careful not to let it brown.
- Add the Tomatoes:
- Pour the crushed San Marzano tomatoes into the saucepan.
- Stir in the dried oregano, dried basil, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes if using.
- Simmer the Sauce:
- Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 20-30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Stir occasionally.
- Add the Cream:
- Slowly stir in the heavy cream.
- Continue to cook the sauce on low heat for another 10 minutes, stirring frequently until the sauce is well combined and creamy.
- Adjust Seasoning:
- Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed.
- Serve:
- Serve the San Marzano cream sauce over your favorite pasta.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
Tips:
- Quality Ingredients: Using authentic San Marzano tomatoes will give the sauce a rich and sweet flavor.
- Consistency: If the sauce is too thick, you can thin it with a bit of pasta cooking water. If itβs too thin, let it simmer a bit longer to thicken.
- Blending: For a smoother sauce, you can use an immersion blender to blend the sauce before adding the cream.
Enjoy your creamy and delicious San Marzano cream sauce!
