Ingredients:
- 1 Β½ lbs ground beef (80% lean)
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 large egg
- Β½ cup milk
- ΒΌ cup ketchup (plus extra for topping)
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- Β½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried thyme (optional)
- 1 tsp dried parsley
- Β½ tsp smoked paprika (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease a loaf pan.
- Mix the Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, milk, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, thyme, parsley, and smoked paprika. Use your hands or a large spoon to mix everything until well combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can make the meatloaf dense.
- Shape the Meatloaf:
- Transfer the meat mixture to the prepared baking sheet or loaf pan. Shape it into a loaf, roughly 8 inches long and 4 inches wide.
- Add Topping:
- Spread a thin layer of ketchup over the top of the meatloaf for added flavor and moisture.
- Bake:
- Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160Β°F (71Β°C). If using a loaf pan, you may need to drain any excess fat midway through cooking.
- Rest and Serve:
- Once done, let the meatloaf rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. This helps retain the juices. Serve with mashed potatoes, gravy, or your favorite sides.
Enjoy your delicious, homemade meatloaf!
