Ingredients:
- 1 pound (450g) of ground beef or turkey
- 1 onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 cans (6 oz each) tomato paste
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C).
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onions and minced garlic, and sautΓ© until translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add ground beef or turkey to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, water, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese and egg until well combined.
- Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a 9×13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of the meat sauce on the bottom.
- Place 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce, slightly overlapping them.
- Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a third of the meat sauce, and a third of the shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat layers with remaining noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and mozzarella cheese.
- Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the top of the lasagna.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- Let the lasagna cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
