Here’s a recipe for crispy chili beef:
Ingredients:
- 400g beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1-inch piece ginger, minced
- 2-3 red chilies, thinly sliced (adjust according to your spice preference)
- 3 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Spring onions (scallions) and sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions:
- In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Add the sliced beef to this mixture and toss to coat. Let it marinate for about 15-20 minutes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the marinated beef slices in batches and fry until crispy and browned. Remove the beef from the pan and set it aside on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed, then add the sliced bell peppers, onion, garlic, ginger, and red chilies. Stir-fry for a few minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
- Return the crispy beef to the pan with the vegetables.
- In a small bowl, mix together the sweet chili sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, and brown sugar. Pour this sauce over the beef and vegetables, stirring well to coat everything evenly.
- Cook for another couple of minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and everything is heated through.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper if necessary.
- Serve the crispy chili beef hot, garnished with sliced spring onions and sesame seeds. Enjoy!
Feel free to adjust the level of spiciness according to your taste preferences by adding more or fewer chili peppers.
